Good evening BHS family and friends,

This Sunday, February 26th, we have our very 1st Open Garden for 2023, the beautiful garden of Prof. Clive and Mrs. Julie Landis. Please see below for the garden description and also for directions. We look forward to seeing you!

WELCOME
Welcome to the Landis’ Garden. We hope that you will enjoy the garden and the plants that are in bloom. This garden located on the cliff at Kendal commands a panoramic view of St. Philip, from Skeete’s Bay, Sam Lords and the Crane in the east, to the Airport and parts of Christ Church in the south. The garden has been beautifully and lovingly planned and landscaped by Mrs. Julie Landis whose love of gardening and nature is evident throughout.

INTERESTING FEATURES OF THE GARDEN
At the entrance the driveway is planted with Portulacas, and as you walk along, the right side is a continuous border planted with an interesting collection of shrubs and plants, while on the left side an expansive lawn is dotted with a variety of trees, including heavily scented Ylang-ylang, Cassia, Fat Pork, Pomegranate, fruit trees, a variety of Bromeliads used as a colorful ground cover, Kalanchoe, followed by hanging Orchids and a new edition to the garden, a vegetable/tyre garden.

Follow the path where you will find Loquat, Carambola, Longan, Coffee, and Cocoa trees and be welcomed by the chickens and many cats. On the brow of the cliff overlooking the parish of St. Philip is a large area of Bromeliads and an abundance of ornamental pineapple plants. Then continue up to the large lawn with towering Bismarck palms and if you are lucky you will see Wilson the peacock in full display, but please don’t approach him. The garden overlooks a pristine swimming pool with a Gazebo and Terrace where teas and cool drinks will be available.

WHAT’S NEW
Relax and enjoy a large variety of Hybrid Anthuriums, Phalaenopsis and Dendrobium orchids, each in their own secluded area, with seating surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of these and other colorful shrubs and flowering plants too numerous to mention.
