“The fairest thing in nature, the flower, still has its roots in earth and manure” – D. Lawrence.
Today, we at the BHS want to recognize and congratulate one of our very own “flowers” on her latest achievement. Dr. Frances Louise Chandler, OBE, our very supportive committee member, has been graciously approved by The Queen for the following award in the 2019 New Year honours:
Under the Order Of The British Empire – Commander Of The Order Of The British Empire (CBE) for services to agriculture and sustainable development.
Dr. Frances Chandler was Barbados’ first female agronomist, and the first agronomist to serve as Independent Senator. She chose to become an agronomist because she recognized the importance of improving food production and increasing food security in her country but is also known for her ardent work with the Barbados Horticultural Society.
We congratulate her on yet another wonderful achievement!
